An extensive 60-day journey around the Australian Coast is being halted days after the death of an senior female passenger who was left behind by the cruise liner on a remote coastal location.

The elderly woman had been walking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the vessel, but separated from the group for a break. The ship departed without her and came back several hours later after the ship staff discovered the passenger was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt located her body the next day.

Authorities are looking into the incident, in coordination with law enforcement and the official investigator.

Head of the shipping company stated that passengers and staff on the vessel were informed that the continuation of the voyage had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and previous technical problems".
